who knew StarStax wasn’t just for stars!?!… i was inspired by the work of another photographer - Matt Molloy - www.flickr.com/photos/matt_molloy - and thought i would try the same (he uses photoshop - much too complicated for me).
my work has yet to even come close to rivalling his, however this was my first attempt - but a variation of the original i posted here: www.flickr.com/photos/lynnharmstrong/10878390183/ . 94 images taken 10 seconds apart over 15 minutes at sunset stacked with StarStax this time using the blending mode - average - decrease exposure (by .1). then fiddled with in Nik HDR Efex.
i hope for a more crazy, dramatic sky next time i try this. i think i need smaller clouds over a longer period…and some more crazy winds like this time. it’s incredible though, the amount of different colours that get captured over such a small period of time… almost reminds me of northern lights, or a tie dye…
'scuse me while I kiss the sky on Flickr.

one of the shots i submitted to the cornwall art gallery’s photo exhibition this year - the theme of the contest was ‘quality and drama of light in photography which encompass’s highlight, shadow, contrast etc’.
i really liked how the bed sheets picked up the light and shadows, as well as the light on my model’s leg and shoes. i noticed afterward how the ripples in the sheets also tend to lead toward the uplifted leg.
even though i haven’t read the books, it was my vision of ‘fifty shades of grey’ without getting too erotic. as well, my model is nearing ‘fifty’ (which also goes well with the title) and is in the best years of her life!… thanks barb!
it was the only one of my three submissions to continue to final judging…i’m keeping my fingers crossed and will find out nov. 23.
